I’m often asked if granola can go bad or stale. Although it’s not likely to go bad, I suppose it could eventually grow stale. From personal experience however, I’ve eaten some of the Sunrise Mix that I found on the bottom of my daypack. It had to have been over a year old, and it still tasted good to me.
Even so, the granola I bake and sell is stamped with a Best By date that is 8-weeks from the date it was baked. Plus, it’s packaged in a resealable tin-tie paper bag with a food safe liner, which has proven to preserve the granola well beyond the Best By date.
If you visit An Average Jill at one of the farmer’s markets, you might find a Price Reduced bin with granola getting close to, or just past the Best By date. It’s still yummy and good.
