Happy Anniversary to An Average Jill!

One year ago this week, An Average Jill granola was introduced at the Woodbury Earth Day Festival in Woodbury Connecticut. This was a big event for me, because it was the first one I had ever done. The weeks prior, I worked hard to build the tent display, and get the baking and packaging ready for the granola’s big reveal.

I began set-up the night before, and wasn’t prepared for the gusty winds. Fortunately, the apparel brand, Livin’ Country, was also setting up nearby, and its owner was able to watch the tent while I ran to a local Home Depot to purchase better anchors. By the next day, the wind and rain had cleared to mostly sunny skies, and the fun and lively festival attracted many earthly folks.

I was very grateful to these ladies (pictured above) who came out the next day to offer emotional support and lend their hand. Pictured are my good friends (to the left of me), Krissy and Vicki; to the right of me, Alicia and Tabby; and not to be forgotten behind the camera, my friend of over 30 years, Lisa. These ladies worked their butts off the entire day, while I took time to chat with the many wonderful customers, and family and friends, who came out to show their love and support. It was an enchanting day!

This year, due to social distancing, the Woodbury Earth Day Festival scheduled for May 2nd was cancelled. I was heartbroken when I received the news last month. For me, the festival was more than just an event, it represented an anniversary, and I was looking forward to celebrating with good people. Instead, I look forward to the upcoming farmers’ markets to share my excitement over a new season.

The first farmers’ market on the schedule is the Kent Farmer’s market for Friday May 22nd (3-6:30pm). Followed by the Norfolk Farmer’s market on Saturday May 23rd (10-1pm). I’ll be adding a schedule of events on the Home Page, as well as keeping communication through Facebook. I look forward to celebrating with you all!
